Born in Danang, Vietnam in 1980, I came to Toronto, Canada, at the age of 9. My work as a home visiting nurse and as a photographer closely intertwine in a dialogue that explores transitional and transformative experiences, such as moving from one country to another or growing old.  The photographs that result from this dialogue are usually of subject matter immediately in my surroundings. I am drawn to ordinary things and places and the ways they can be used to create meanings.

My first trip back to Vietnam in 2005, and subsequence visits after that have profoundly deepened my relationship to the country. The work My Parents, Water Torture, and Switch are the results of this reconnection to my homeland.
